Consulting Project Manager
Digital Sandbox, McLean, VA

Our firm is hiring an experienced consultant with a strong track record in strategy, in risk management, or in the business consulting practice of a diversified consulting firm.

If you have 5-7 years of successful project experience, can write client-ready deliverables of the highest quality, and can manage work streams and day-to-day client relationships – then we would like to speak with you about taking your career to the next level.

The Role:

As a consultant at our firm, you will advise clients on topics at the intersection of risk management and homeland security. The focus of our practice is on projects that support national, state, and local efforts to counter the threat of terrorism. Some of these projects involve traditional management consulting practice for homeland security clients, including strategy, organizational change, program evaluation, program implementation planning, and business process change. Others are more specialized engagements with a homeland security focus, including elements of risk measurement, risk reporting, vulnerability assessment, and risk-based allocation. Most of our projects combine elements of both.

This role will be a growth opportunity for the person we hire. Our rapidly growing client base and pipeline are full of interesting analytical projects that will make a real difference to our clients’ success. The right candidate will have opportunities to manage projects, develop senior level client relationships – SES, political appointee, CXO – and launch new service and solution offerings.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Writing client-ready project deliverables, including strategic briefings, white papers, option analyses, and quantitative models
  • Presenting findings to clients
  • Leading facilitated work sessions to resolve client problems or generate deliverable content (both internal sessions and client-facing sessions)
  • Managing day-to-day relationships with clients
  • Leading specific projects and workstreams – including managing the effort and time of more junior analysts and subject matter experts making a part-time contribution
  • Participating in other projects and workstreams as a solo consultant or individual contributor
  • Traveling to client site as needed to collect information and present findings. The role is expected to require 20% to 40% travel over the course of a year. Specific projects require 0% to 80% travel depending on the client.
  • Defining repeatable frameworks that the firm can leverage across multiple sales and consulting projects (i.e., packaged service / solution offerings)
  • Contributing to business development efforts – with a focus on helping grow business with the clients that you serve.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5 to 7 years of successful, highly analytical experience as a consultant to business or government
    • Strategic consulting, risk management, or other high-end business consulting experience preferred
    • Public sector experience preferred
  • Strong quantitative skills
  • Superior written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to produce client-ready deliverables with minimal guidance
  • Facilitative team leadership skills – the ability to get results from small, short-term project teams that include both client and firm staff
  • Bachelor’s degree, quantitative or science background preferred
  • Eligible to obtain a U.S. government security clearance
  • Willing to travel

Desired Qualifications: (preferred, but not required)

  • Experience at a name firm in a relevant consulting field, such as
    • Strategy – McKinsey, Bain, BCG
    • Federal – SAIC, Booz Allen
    • Big Five business consulting practice
  • Advanced degree in a quantitative, science, policy, or security field
  • Successful business development track record
  • Prior military, law enforcement, fire, or EMS experience of any kind. Our projects focus on issues of terrorism and homeland security, so this experience is a useful subject matter credential.
  • Prior experience with national and/or homeland security issues and clients
  • Active / current Secret or Top Secret security clearance

We Offer:

  • Competitive salary
  • Incentive compensation plan
  • Equity participation in a closely-held company, with significant upside potential
  • Competitive benefits package including medical, dental, and 401(k)
  • A flexible and entrepreneurial company culture and work environment
  • Excellent quality of life - work-life balance is more attainable at Digital Sandbox than at the traditional firm
  • Autonomy and creative freedom for consultants - a results focus, not a process orientation
  • Challenging, interesting work in a rapidly growing field
