Syracuse Taps Digital Sandbox for Risk Analytics, Analytic Risk Management Capability Essential to Urban Area Security Initiative

Sep 17 2009

Digital Sandbox, Inc., provider of the Risk Analysis Center (RAC), a suite of advanced risk-management software and analysis services, recently announced that Onondaga County Department of Emergency Management and the City of Syracuse are implementing Risk Analysis Center (RAC) services to identify the most significant natural hazards and man-made threats throughout the metropolitan area, a key step in developing a more effective risk management and risk mitigation capability for the Syracuse Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI).

As a Department of Homeland Security UASI, the Syracuse area has received grant funding for improving its risk and hazard preparedness.  This engagement with Digital Sandbox represents the first stage of that improvement process.

“Our initial project,” explained Peter Alberti, Commissioner, County of Onondaga Department of Emergency Management, “will produce a Risk Baseline and a risk management Concept of Operations (CONOPs) for the Syracuse Urban Area.  Assessing and prioritizing threats to our critical infrastructure will allow us to make more informed risk-based decisions, and the CONOPs will help the area to come together in order to develop a reliable operational framework as the foundation of the area’s broader Homeland Security risk management program.”

In addition to the City of Syracuse, jurisdictions being assessed as part of this project include all of New York’s Madison, Onondaga, and Oswego counties, which combined constitute the Syracuse Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).

“Once the Risk Baseline and CONOPs are established, the Syracuse UASI will be able to better determine appropriate asset allocation and sharpen its investment focus,” said Digital Sandbox President and co-founder Anthony Beverina. “These RAC deliverables will provide the structure and analytic processes for the UASI to set up an ongoing program to better protect its citizens.”
