Digital Sandbox is Awarded US Patent for “Method and Apparatus for Risk Management”

Digital Sandbox, Inc., a leading provider of risk management strategies and solutions to homeland security and public safety organizations, announced today that it has been awarded US Patent 7,130,779 for its “Method and Apparatus for Risk Management”.  Co-inventors Anthony Beverina and Bryan Ware, the Founders of Digital Sandbox, filed their application in May 2001. 

“This Patent is a recognition of the intellectual property that our company and our products are built around,” said Mr. Ware.  “This invention is the foundation for the market leading risk analytics we have incorporated in our Site Profiler product and our risk consulting business,” said Mr. Beverina.  Founded in 1998, Digital Sandbox’s innovative analytical approach to risk management has been broadly applied to terrorism, intelligence, natural hazard, and financial applications at all levels of government.

Digital Sandbox, Inc., a leading provider of risk management strategies and solutions to homeland security and public safety organizations, is a proud sponsor and participant in the first National Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) conference April 10-12 in Miami, FL.  The conference brought together over 600 attendees to share best practices from UASI programs around the country.

Digital Sandbox Announces Site Profiler 4.0

Digital Sandbox, Inc., a leading provider of risk management strategies and solutions to homeland security and public safety organizations, today announced Site Profiler 4.0, the next generation of its leading risk management system for State, Urban Area, and local agencies.  “We set out on an ambitious development plan last year,” said Robert Kerr, Chief Technology Officer of Digital Sandbox, “and have invested over 1 million dollars of internal funds in product development this year.”

Digital Sandbox Congratulates Chris Geldart on his Appointment to the FEMA Leadership Team

Geldart, Senior Risk Analyst at Digital Sandbox has been asked to serve as the director of the Office of National Capitol Region Coordination (ONCRC) within FEMA. He will oversee and coordinate federal programs and domestic preparedness initiatives for state, local and regional authorities in the National Capital Region.

“I welcome Chris to the DHS team and look forward to working with him in this vital position. Digital Sandbox Expands Board of Directors

Digital Sandbox, Inc., a leading provider of risk management strategies and solutions to homeland security and public safety organizations, announced the expansion of its Board of Directors.  Industry veterans Amit Yoran and Don Gilberg have joined the Board and taken active roles in the Company’s growth.  “We are excited by the experience and leadership that Amit and Don bring to Digital Sandbox,” said Bryan Ware, CEO of Digital Sandbox.

Amit Yoran will assume the role of Chairman of the Board.  Amit is currently the CEO of NetWitness Corporation.  Prior to NetWitness, he was appointed as Director of the National Cyber Security Division of the Department of Homeland Security and as CEO and advisor to In-Q-Tel, the venture capital arm of the CIA. Formerly Mr Yoran served as the Vice President of Worldwide Managed Security Services at the Symantec Corporation. Mr. Yoran was the co-founder of Riptech, a market leading IT security company, and served as its CEO until the company was acquired by Symantec in 2002. He served as an officer in the United States Air Force in the Department of Defense's Computer Emergency Response Team.

Don Gilberg is currently the Vice President of Strategic Development at NetWitness Corporation. He previously served as Managing Director of Security Accelerator LLC, a strategic advisory firm serving the homeland security markets. Gilberg is the former Senior Director of CivitasGroup and an expert on insurance, risk assessment and mitigation, product liability, corporate intelligence and fraud investigations.  Mr. Gilberg is a member of the American Bar Association and is admitted to the bar in New York, Massachusetts, DC, Maryland, Virginia, and the United States Supreme Court.

Digital Sandbox expands management team with three key hires

Digital Sandbox, Inc., a leading provider of risk management strategies and solutions to homeland security and public safety organizations, today announced the addition of three new members of its management team.

Heidi Waters joins Digital Sandbox as the Director of Project Management. Mrs. Waters brings over 15 years of experience in managing IT projects in diverse industries, cultures and business climates for both government and commercial sectors to Digital Sandbox. Prior to Digital Sandbox, Mrs. Waters served as the Director of Consulting Services for CGI-AMS and was responsible for delivery of client engagements, implemented best practices, SOX compliance processes, and risk management procedures to improve project delivery.

Mike Borek joins Digital Sandbox as the Director of Marketing and Sales. Mr. Borek brings over 12 years of experience in managing corporate branding, product marketing and business development functions in the enterprise technology sector. During his career, Mr. Borek has been responsible for crafting several sustained market niches in enterprise mobile integration, network operations management and has driven product strategy at MCI, Lucent Technologies, Sun Microsystems, Cysive, Inside-Out Technologies, American Management Systems and others.

Andrew Hoddick joined its executive team as the Director of Finance and Administration. Mr. Hoddick brings over a decade of financial and operational experience in building a wide range of systems and infrastructure for start-ups. Prior to Digital Sandbox, Mr. Hoddick served as the Vice President of Finance and Administration for SonoMedica and GroupServe and as a senior financial analyst at Calvert Ventures, a venture fund investing in companies with socially or environmentally beneficial products.

Dr. David Daniels, Ph.D. joins Digital Sandbox as Director of Risk Analytics

Digital Sandbox, Inc., a leading provider of risk management strategies and solutions to homeland security and public safety organizations, today announced that Dr. David Daniels, Ph.D. has joined its executive team as Director of Risk Analysis.

Dr. Daniels brings a solid background in developing and applying rigorous analytical techniques to real-world problems in a variety of academic, business, and government settings. Prior experience includes strategy and technical consulting with The Boston Consulting Group and Booz Allen Hamilton, which includes work for the National Infrastructure Advisory Council (NIAC), the Financial Services Sector Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC), the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and various commercial and defense industry clients. He has advised clients on technology investments, built analytical assessment frameworks and tools, performed technical due diligence for acquisitions, and written policy guidance for critical infrastructure protection legislation.

Dr. Daniels holds an M.Sc. degree from the University of Oxford, A.M. and Ph.D. degrees in physics from Harvard University, and has over 50 academic publications.

Josh Filler joins Digital Sandbox Advisory Board

Filler to the firm's advisory board. Additionally, Digital Sandbox is partnering with Mr. Filler's firm Filler Security Strategies, Inc. Mr. Filler most recently served as the first ever Director of the Office of State & Local Government Coordination for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in Washington, DC. Mr. Filler was a founding member of DHS, senior advisor to the Secretary of Homeland Security, a member of the Department's senior management team and a member of the Secretary's Emergency Response Group for incident management. As Director of the Office of State & Local Government Coordination, Mr. Filler was the Department of Homeland Security's primary point of contact for state, local and tribal homeland security leaders, including Homeland Security Directors, Mayors, Governors, Sheriffs, Police Chiefs, Fire Chiefs, Emergency Managers and other leaders and was responsible for coordinating the programs and policies of the Department as they relate to local, state and tribal governments.

Prior to joining DHS, Mr. Filler was Director of Local Affairs for the White House Office of Homeland Security (OHS) in Washington. Before joining the White House, Mr. Filler served in the Cabinet of Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani in New York as Director of Legislative Affairs for the Mayor and Chief of Staff in the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Operations.

Tampa Bay Region selects Digital Sandbox to build out Regional terrorism risk management capabilities

State of New Jersey selects Digital Sandbox to build out Regional terrorism risk management capabilities

Digital Sandbox, Inc., a leading provider of risk management strategies and solutions to homeland security and public safety organizations, today announced that the State of New Jersey has engaged the firm to build out its terrorism risk management capability. Under this initiative, spearheaded by New Jersey's Office of Counterterrorism, Digital Sandbox will develop key risk management business processes, roll out the Site Profiler software suite statewide, and train users at the County and State level. This statewide rollout of Site Profiler follows a pilot project in 2004 that demonstrated how law enforcement, emergency management, and critical infrastructure protection professionals at the county and state levels could be integrated together to identify risks to the State, and prioritize homeland security expenditures to maximize return on investment. Digital Sandbox selected to support the Eastern Kentucky University Justice & Safety Center to implement Partnership for Safe and Secure Communities (PASCOM) program.

Digital Sandbox, Inc., a leading provider of risk management strategies and solutions to homeland security and public safety organizations, today announced that it was awarded a contract with the Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) Justice and Safety Center to provide support to the Partnership for Safe and Secure Communities (PASCOM) Program (www.justice.eku.edu). Under this initiative, Digital Sandbox will work with EKU and its partners to define operating concepts and system designs for a multi-tiered approach to terrorism risk management. This modular, multi-tiered approach will connect public sector entities from the most rural communities to the largest cities using risk management building blocks that will be assembled to provide risk management systems for regions or states to support their data collection, analysis, and reporting needs.
